The first CNI 101 Workshop will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 6 p.m. at Pearl Bailey Library, 2510 Wickham Ave. The purpose of the workshop is to provide an introduction and overview of the the Marshall-Ridley Choice Neighborhood Initiative (CNI) for those who are new to the transformation process.

The first steps for the Marshall-Ridley Choice Neighborhood Initiative were taken back in 2015. At that time, the Department of Planning for the City of Newport News began the application process for the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development’s Choice Neighborhood Initiative Planning Grant.

So much has happened since then, including significant growth in the number of community partners, service providers, residents, and other stakeholders who have participated or expressed interest in this community’s transformation process.

The CNI 101 Workshop is also a good opportunity for those who have been involved with CNI but could use a refresher on the project’s background.

If you are interested in the workshop but are unable to attend the September session, don’t worry; there will be more CNI 101 Workshops in the future. Subscribe to the Your Choice newsletter or follow NewportNewsChoice on Facebook for the latest updates and announcements.

The CNI 101 Workshop is free and open to the public, but registration is strongly encouraged to ensure adequate seating. To register for the September 4 session, please contact Latara Rouse at rousels@nnva.gov or call 757-926-8081.
